Brief launches to build the Executive Intelligence platform

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SugarCRM operators Larry Augustin, Clint Oram, and Zac Sprackett introduce a new category of enterprise software, built on a continuously maintained World Model of Work

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Los Altos, Calif. April 28, 2026. Brief, a new enterprise software company, today launched to introduce a new category of enterprise software: Executive Intelligence. Founded by Larry Augustin, Zac Sprackett, and Clint Oram, three of the operators who built SugarCRM, Brief is the Executive Intelligence platform. It maintains context across an executive's decisions, relationships, and time, and delivers that context proactively, before the moment it matters.

Brief addresses a problem the founders call context blindness: the gap between having information and having the synthesized understanding required to act on it. It is the structural reason executives spend the first minutes of every meeting reconstructing history that the systems around them already hold.

"Every tool captures activity," said Larry Augustin, co-founder and CEO of Brief. "No tool maintains understanding."

What Brief does

Brief operates inside the tools executives already use: email, calendar, Slack, CRM, meeting notes, and document stores. It briefs leaders before every meeting with the prior decisions, open commitments, recent conversations, and relationship history that matter for the conversation ahead. It carries commitments forward until they are resolved. It captures decisions with their rationale, the alternatives considered, and the commitments they produced. And it surfaces the tasks and follow-ups hiding inside inbound communication, each one a single click away from an executive's task list.

A new category

Executive Intelligence is distinct from meeting assistants, AI copilots, and enterprise search. Those systems optimize for capture or retrieval. Brief optimizes for readiness.

Brief is built on the World Model of Work, a continuously maintained representation of the people, decisions, commitments, and relationships that define an executive's professional reality. The knowledge layer carries the responsibility for memory. The language model carries the responsibility for reasoning. Each layer does the job it was designed for.

Founding team

Larry Augustin, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, has spent twenty-five years building enterprise software at scale. He was previously CEO of SugarCRM, VP of Applications at AWS, and co-founder and CEO of VA Linux.

Zac Sprackett, co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, was previously CTO and CPO of SugarCRM, where he led the transformation of the product from an open-source project into a SaaS business.

Clint Oram, co-founder and Chief Growth Officer, co-founded SugarCRM and served across product and go-to-market roles as Chief Strategy Officer, CMO, and CTO over twenty years.

Founder commentary

"Systems of record optimize for capture. Brief optimizes for readiness," Augustin said. "That is not a better system of record. It is a different layer, and one the executive function of enterprise software has needed for decades."

"We've built systems that store emails, meetings, and tasks but understand nothing about how they are connected," said Sprackett. "Brief is built to understand, and to keep understanding as your work changes around you."

"Over the past several months, in discovery conversations with executives and operators, I heard the same sentiment dozens of times: 'I thought that was just me,'" said Oram. "The problem is not personal. It is a structural failure of the modern work stack. Brief is the first system built to own it."

Design partner program

Brief is recruiting design partners now. Design partners are not beta testers. They are collaborators with early access to the software and direct access to the founding team as Brief is being built. Executives who experience context blindness acutely and want to work directly with the team can apply at trybrief.ai.
